Incorporated Season 1 Episode 8 Review: Operational Realignment

Take that, Mr. Smarty-pants!

Ben finds out on Incorporated Season 1 Episode 8 that sometimes you can be too clever for your own good.

I know he's desperate to get Elena back and all (even though she told him to move on more than once), but doing a partial self lobotomy sounds like a bit of reach to me.

Hendrick Mulls His Options - Incorporated Season 1 Episode 8
(Ben Mark Holzberg/Syfy)

Ben: I’m just temporarily disconnecting some circuits.

Hendrick: Aaron isn’t a circuit-it’s who you are.

Ben: But he’s not who I need to be right now.

🔗 permalink: But he’s not who I need to be right now.

Anyone who's watched TV before knows that this type of deal isn't gonna work, and for someone who's supposedly as smart as Ben should know better.

Ben: The lie becomes the truth, or at least that’s the idea.

The ramifications of this go far beyond just evading the Everclear device. Now that he's essentially a Spiga drone, he isn't taking the birth control to thwart Laura's attempt to have children.

And, of course, they get busy later in the episode, and you know what that means: a baby drone will soon be on the way!

The funny part of all this is that even though he fooled Julian, it still ends up biting him in the ass.

Julian In Crisis - Incorporated Season 1 Episode 8
(Ben Mark Holzberg/Syfy)

Gates: Have a gut feeling about who did this?

Julian: I have someone in mind.

🔗 permalink: I have someone in mind.

What Ben didn't foresee is that his drone self would be such a kiss ass (aren't they all?). So all the tech help he was giving Julian ended up pointing the finger at who? Wait for it…himself!

Totally ridiculous. This episode bordered on outright farce. Ben, the man with all the answers, who plans every angle, couldn't predict this or try to prevent it? Wow.

Ben: Is there a problem?

Julian: We’re about to find out.

🔗 permalink: We’re about to find out.

Yeah, we found out alright.

Ben Plots His Next Move - Incorporated Season 1 Episode 8
(Ben Mark Holzberg/Syfy)

Hendrick was totally out of character here, too. Supposedly Ben's friend and lifelong mentor, he tries to turn rabbit and run, without bringing Aaron back.

Even the Aaron messages threatening Hendrick if he didn't do the right thing don't make a dent. He'd seriously risk being outed to Spiga, endangering him AND his daughter? Nuh uh.

The b-side plot involving Laura and the Red Zone clinic went nowhere.

The whole saving the kid thing, only to have the company try to repossess the bionic heart, reminded me of the movie "Repo Men", and guess what?

Breaking Policy - Incorporated
(Ben Mark Holzberg/Syfy)

Stop me if you've heard this before: it was done MUCH better in the movie.

Goran making a deal at the last second to save Laura was pretty simplistic and very weak. Disappointing.

And wasn't it sooo convenient that Goran and Julian just happen to know each other and were old war buds?

I could see Laura and Julian joining forces with Goran eventually, since they are the only characters with the slightest bit of empathy.

Could we please stop with the Theo storyline? Now he viciously killed a dude in the ring while he was on the rage drug.

I HATE Theo (but not as much as Ben), and I really need for him to go away. The killing was gratuitous and disgusting.

His plot brings nothing to the table. I don't see where his story has anything to do with the overall plot, and it's just filler as far as I'm concerned.

Well, there are two episodes left, and I really don't know (or care) where this is headed. Oh, if I could get a partial mind wipe so I could forget this episode….
